Laurie Lea Van Dyke

January 23, 1960 — February 26, 2024

Elk Grove

In loving memory of a caring wife, wonderful mother, cherished grandmother, beloved daughter, and a friend to many.

Laurie “Bird” Lea Van Dyke (Frost), 63, of Elk Grove, CA passed away in her home on February 26, 2024. Laurie was born on November 23, 1960, to H.F. and Lillian Frost in Sacramento, CA. She met her husband Harold “Shorty” Van Dyke in 1986 and they were married on March 16, 1991.

Laurie will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved her family; they were her pride and joy. Her parents meant the world to her, she was a daddy’s and mommy’s girl. She found joy and peace in her husband, daughters, and grandkids. She enjoyed her many cousins.

Laurie was a nurturer and caregiver since she was a child and carried it into adulthood. She loved people; she had a big heart and was compassionate, caring and would give anything to anyone in need. She welcomed everyone into her home, always focusing on whether they were comfortable and ensuring that they were taken care of. She was successful at making everyone feel like they were family. She would care for her friends, family, and neighbors without being asked. God blessed her with the gift of hospitality.

Laurie enjoyed bowling; she was a member of a local bowling league for many years. She loved to dance and sing to Motown, Oldies, Country and of course Whitney Houston. You may remember her dancing with the grandkids or dancing in the snow. She was so much fun and knew how to brighten your day.

She loved playing with her grandchildren and would embrace every moment; she looked forward to riding the rides at Six Flags, playing games, and rooting the grandkids on at their sporting events. Laurie will be remembered while in the baseball stands, shouting, “find that hole and plant that ball” and “bring ‘em around.” Laurie’s beautiful soul will be deeply missed, and she will be remembered for being funny, kind, a little sassy, and for the love that she showed to everyone.

Laurie “Bird” Lea Van Dyke (Frost) is survived by her father H.F. Frost, stepmother Lila Frost, husband of 33 years Harold Van Dyke (Shorty), her daughters Valerie Williams (42), Kaycee Foster (41), Elizabeth Walden (40), Nicole Deters (39), fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her mother Lillian Frost, brother Billy Frost, and brother Ronnie Frost.
