It is with great sadness that we announce the death of LaMar Bybee Mitchell on 01/31/2025 in Roseville, CA after a prolonged period of decline.
LaMar was born in Sacramento, CA on August 4, 1955 to Don and LaRita (nee Bybee) Mitchell. Raised in Elk Grove, LaMar was active in 4H, Future Farmers of America, Boy Scouts of America, and the LDS Church. Once graduated from Elk Grove High School, LaMar went on a mission for the LDS Church to Wales, UK picking up a love of dark beer and seafood along the way. Once home LaMar worked a variety of jobs before working as a long-haul trucker with Snyder Trucking where he met his future wife, Tara. LaMar began his college education after getting married and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from CSU-Sacramento. While working part-time at American River College as a math tutor, LaMar began to work for the County of Sacramento - Metropolitan Air Quality District full-time, before transitioning to working for the State of California - Air Resources Board as an Air Pollution Specialist where he worked until September 2020.
LaMar had one son, Andrew born in 1990; and one daughter, Tesa, born in 1992. LaMar was a proud father of his children and participated in academic, athletic, and scouting ventures with both.
LaMar enjoyed; travelling, his dog Twister, dark beer, BBQ’d & smoked meats, the Reno Rib Festival, classic rock, especially Alice Cooper, and watching the 49ers.
LaMar is survived by his son Andrew, his older brother Van (Linda) of Mesa, AZ, and his younger brothers Eric of Cheyenne, WY, and Odell of Elk Grove, CA; Anne of Jerome, ID, sister-in-law of his deceased eldest brother Don, and in-law parents Eric and Patricia Arentz and in-law sister Lori (Jeff), both of Reno, NV. LaMar is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces in AZ, CA, ID, NE, NV, UT, and VT.
LaMar’s Memorial Service will be at East Lawn Memorial Park (4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95819) on March 29, 2025 at 12:00 noon with a reception on site to follow.
