Kenneth Mapes Obituary

Kenneth Edward Mapes passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on October 31, 2024, in Carmichael, CA. Born on October 9, 1951, Ken was known for his warm spirit and dedication to his profession.

Ken was a revered journeyman body man for Freightliner Trucking in Oakland, CA, where his meticulous attention to detail was greatly appreciated by all who worked alongside him. Unfortunately, a back injury in 2011 led him to retire early from the profession he loved.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Ken was an ardent supporter of the Oakland Raiders, the Oakland Athletics, and the San Jose Sharks, following the Raiders through their relocations with unwavering loyalty. He also had a deep love for NASCAR, with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver. Ken's love for sports was matched by his enjoyment of rafting and attending various sporting events.

Ken is survived by his mother, Barbara; brothers, Steve, Randy, and David; sisters-in-law, Maureen, Lori, and Denise; and his nieces and nephews, Amanda, Daniel, Patrick, Kimberly, Stephanie, Laura, Kevin, Brianna, Weston and by the woman he called "The love of his life," Robbie Buckley. He was preceded in death by his father, Daryl, who passed away in 2003.

Services to honor Ken's life will be held at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by a celebration of life. In remembrance of Ken's love for his dogs, Royce and Capone, contributions may be made to the ASPCA in lieu of flowers, honoring his passion for animal welfare.

Sincerely, Mo
