Kathleen “Katy” Doris Fouts, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, in Sacramento, California, at the age of 91.
Katy was born on January 26, 1934, in Ensenada, Mexico, to Frances and Joseph Machado. She grew up surrounded by family and love, and from an early age her life was defined by her generosity and devotion to others.
Katy met the love of her life, Donald Fouts, in the sixth grade. The two were inseparable, marrying at just 19 years old, and shared 72 wonderful years together. Family was always at the center of Katy’s world. She raised their three daughters with warmth and dedication, and when her twin sister’s children needed care, she opened her heart and home to them as well. To dozens of neighborhood children, she was a second mother, providing a safe and loving place while their parents worked. Her heart for service extended to her years as a troop leader with the Camp Fire Girls youth organization.
Katy’s home was always filled with love, laughter, and good food. If you were a friend, you were family, and if you were family, you were always welcome—meals included. She cherished time at the family’s cabin in Jenner, California, where countless memories were made despite her mobility challenges in recent years.
Katy had a passion for creativity and keeping busy. She loved to sew, embroider, craft, collect antiques, and cook. She also enjoyed playing bunco. Katy was known as the president of the group she played with for over 40 years. She had a special gift for turning everyday moments into memories, and her family will forever think of her when browsing craft fairs, strolling through antique shops, or enjoying a bowl of chicken and dumplings.
Katy is survived by her devoted husband, Donald; daughters Pamela Woodbury (Robert) and Diana Fouts-Guter (Michael); grandchildren Jennifer, Joseph, Karyn, Michelle, and Cody; seven great-grandchildren; her sister Joanne Eve (Bill); and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her youngest daughter, Laura; her brother, Perry; and her twin sister, Colleen.
Katy’s legacy is one of love, care, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Viewing will be on Sunday, September 7th from 4-7pm. A service honoring her will be held on Monday, September 8th, at 10:00 am.
