Katherine âKayâ Djubek passed away on April 15, 2019. She was 91 years young. Raised in Winters, California, Kay was a graduate of Winterâs High School and then went on to Healds Business College. She had several career employments the last of which was working for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of California as their Department Secretary/Administrative Assistant for over 20 years.
Kay was an active life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as Auxiliary President, District President, and many other offices. She often hosted the Ex-Chiefs (Past District Presidentâs) for their meeting at her summer home in Chester. She attended many Department of California conventions and was well known throughout the state.
Kay was also active with Rainbow for Girls, serving as Mother Advisor of Rose Assembly #224 for many years and was awarded Rainbowâs highest honor, the Grand Cross of Color. She was a long-time member of New Hope Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at Kaiser Hospital South for many years earning her high recognition including recognition by the President of the United States and the VFW Department of California.
Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Al King, son and daughter-in-law John and Patricia Djubek, Grandchildren Joshua Djubek and Amber King, nieces Sandra Duncan, Cindy Contreras, Cherie Humphreys and nephew Sam Fernandez.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years John J. Djubek, Jr., her parents Juan and Yluminada Fernandez, brother Sam Fernandez and sister Isabel Geronimo.
