Life Journey

Our beloved mother and family matriarch, Josefina Jose vda. de Domingo, joined her Heavenly Creator on the 5th of January at 6 PM in Elk Grove, CA, at the age of 80. She is survived by her 7 daughters, 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and 5 sons-in-law.

Josefina Domingo, known as Mamang, Mama Ping, or Siping to her friends, was born on February 19, 1942, in the small town of Casili, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was the eldest among five children of the late Leodegario and Romana Jose.

At the age of 19, she married Leopoldo Domingo and they were blessed with 7 daughters. Leopoldo passed away at the young age of 49, leaving her as a widow and a single mother at age 40. Josefina was left with the responsibility of rearing 7 daughters, the eldest at 19 and the youngest at only 4 years old. She did not remarry, but instead devoted her life to her children. With God's provision and guidance, all her children obtained college degrees and became successful.

Josefina first came to the United States in February of 1983 as a tourist, and by 1995 she migrated to the U.S. through the petition of her eldest daughter, Maybeline. She initially lived in Hawaii with her parents who were still alive at that time, along with her sister Linda and family. She worked as a kitchen staff in a restaurant in Hawaii. She was known at work for her diligence, professionalism, and loyalty.

A decade later, petitions for her other daughters to live in the U.S. were granted through her efforts. She retired and moved to California to be reunited with her daughters and grandchildren.

She enjoyed watching Filipino TV shows, cooking, gardening, and sewing. She always had a strong relationship with the Lord and tried to attend Sunday mass at church whenever she could. Mama Ping was a kind soul, a good friend and sister, as well as an excellent mother. Her radiant beauty inside and out will always be remembered and missed.

On January 5, 2023, a few hours after receiving her last rites from the priest, the gates of heaven opened up for her. She took her last breath at 5:45 PM and was pronounced dead by the hospice nurse at 6 PM. Josefina Domingo is now free --- free from pain and suffering, and has reunited with her husband in heaven.

Josefina Domingo will be truly missed by all her family, friends, and the people whose lives she touched.
