John William Porter Jr.

John William Porter, Jr., US Navy RMC Ret., of Plattsburgh, New York, passed away in Elk Grove, California at the age of 74 on Saturday, March 26, 2022. As he wished for before his passing, present were his loving family, sons Robert and Christopher, and his daughters-in-law, Pahola (Robert) and Riza (Christopher). A private service was held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at East Lawn of Sacramento, California.

John was born on August 28, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia to Edith and John Porter (Sr.). As the son in a Military family, he found his passion in life in the US Navy and as a Civilian working for the US Air Force. John received a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Plattsburgh State University and later taught as adjunct staff at PSU.  He was passionate and a vocal advocate on Climate Change over the past 2 decades.  Using this passion, after retiring from the USN and Civilian position with the USAF, he had the opportunity to use his Merchant Marine FCC Radio License from his tenure in the Navy as a Radio Man Chief, to serve aboard the R/V Atlantis research vessel of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
