John Edward Stroh

June 14, 1928 — December 7, 2023

Sacramento

John Edward Stroh, 95, passed away quietly at home December 7, 2023. He was born June 14, 1928 to John A. and Nellie R. Stroh in Davenport Iowa. The family moved many times when John was young before finally settling in Sacramento. He Graduated from Sacramento High School in 1946 and attended Sacramento City College.
John entered the Marine Corp in 1950. While serving in the Marines, John proposed to and married Elizabeth Yvonne Mortenson.

After his service, they made their home in Sacramento where they raised three children. Leisure time found the family camping with friends, 4 wheeling, hunting, boating, fishing, skiing, and spending time at Tahoe. John also enjoyed flying and had his private pilot’s license. John and Yvonne were active in the Riverview II social club.
John leaves with us many treasured memories. He was always the bright spot in the room with his humor. Telling “Johnnie Jokes” and one liners.

He was also a master of the pun. Dinners often found those at the table with tears running down their faces from laughing so hard. John was also quite the handy man. Building cabinets, fences, adding rooms to their house and helping his children later with “Daddy do “projects around their houses.
John was involved in the trucking business most of his working life. He worked in the family gas hauling business John A. Stroh Distributing Company then later with Cal Gas then AmeriGas. In 1989 John was chosen as the Safety Professional of the Year by the Safety Council of the California Trucking Association.
John retired in 1991.

He and wife Yvonne spent their time traveling across the country, several times and through Alaska in their motor home. They were involved with Buttns (Bounders United Thousand Trails), Gold Country Roos and Bounders United motorhome groups attending many motorhome rallies across the country. When not traveling, John spent his time making wooden toys for his grandchildren and wooden decorations for the house, working puzzles, solving the Daily Jumble and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife of 71 years, Yvonne, son David Stroh, daughters Karen Gonzales and Katherine Anderson, son-in-law Randy Anderson and grandchildren Daniel Anderson and Emily Shrader and her husband Nick Shrader.
Funeral services for John will be held December 28, 2023 1pm at East Lawn East Sacramento 4300 Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento. Graveside service immediately following.
