John Guilford McKennee

John Guilford McKennee, age 83, took his last breath on Sunday, June 7, 2026 with his children at his side.

He was born on April 1, 1943, in Berkeley, California, to Corning Guilford McKennee and Helen Louise (Hill) McKennee. Graduate of Sequoia High School, Redwood City, CA in 1961 and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Brooklyn College, New York. He served in the Army abroad in Germany and as an Auxiliary Police Officer in New York. While in New York he met the love of his life, Diana. He later returned to California with his wife and children making Elk Grove their home since 1980. He retired from the Postal Service.

John had a strong will and stubborn determination. A father who encouraged independent thinking. He was a loving and devoted husband who was never happier than when he was with his wife. He was a constant, loving presence in his grandkids’ lives – never missing a game/event, always ready with a prank, joke, or a sweet treat to share. John was a man who truly found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

John is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Diana of 54 years; daughter Jennifer Miyara (Katsuhiro) and son Jason McKennee (Tanya); grandchildren Brandon, Jason, Layla & Cole; and sister Kathleen (Kathy) McKennee. He was preceded in death by his parents Corning & Helen; brothers Corning (Mac) McKennee, Joseph (Joe) McKennee & Chris McKennee; step-son Francis (Frank) Zamminer, III.
