Janis Jean Caston

May 28, 1949 — April 18, 2024

Janis Caston passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at her home in Elk Grove, California, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.  Born on May 28, 1949, in Twin Falls, Idaho, she was the daughter of Alvin and Mildred Walker.

A lifelong student and respected educator, Janis earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Boise State University in 1971, a Master’s in Accounting from California State University, Sacramento, in 1982, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California in 1993.  She spent the majority of her career at Cosumnes River College, first as a professor of Business and Accounting, then serving as the Dean of Business, and later as Dean of Instruction. In the final years before her retirement, she returned to the classroom to do the work she found most rewarding: teaching.

Janis shared her life with her beloved husband of more than 56 years, Marshall “Butch” Caston. The two were married on December 26, 1967, in their home town of Mountain Home, Idaho. Janis made her choice to serve the Lord at the age of 9, and has done so faithfully ever since. She and Butch have had meeting in their home for over 40 years. In her last months and days, Janis expressed many times how thankful she is to have given her life to serving God.

Janis is survived by her son and his wife, Anthony and Amy Caston, her daughter, Rebecca Kendrick, Aunt Edna Ekstrom, her two brothers and their wives, Richard and Debbie Walker, Don and Linda Walker, and five grandchildren:  Anthony, Annika, Aidan, Zakary, and Aaron, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be deeply missed by her large circle of family and friends
