Janice Marie Lacy-Bowers

On November 24, 1946, Janice Marie Mike was born to Katy Lee Brazel and John Mike in Vallejo, California.  She departed this life on December 25, 2023.

Janice spent her early years in Vallejo, California. At five years old, her Mom moved to Madera before permanently residing in Fresno, California with her family.  She attended Franklin Elementary School, Erwin Junior High School and Thomas A. Edison High School Class of 1964.

In 1967, She moved from Fresno to Menlo Park, California in where she raised her children and pursued her career in education.  She graduated from San Jose State University with her Bachelor’s of Art in Home Economics in 1978.

She was a teacher for over thirty years before retiring from teaching sixth, seventh and eighth graders at Bayside Middle School, in San Mateo California.  She believed in the importance of education and parent involvement.

Another thing Janice loved besides education was her family.  From the road trips to Reno with her children in her 1972 Buick Riviera and trips to Fresno with her grandchildren in her 1997 Cadillac Deville.  To the many family gatherings on Thanksgiving and Christmas on Haight Street.  Family was important to her and being together.

Many of her children’s friends would say 212 Haight Street was a second home to them. She was a second mom and grandma to many of her children and grandchildren’s friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband Isaac Bowers; her brothers Harold Hall, Bruce Hall, Michael Hall and Timothy Hall; her sister Kathy A. Hall; and her grandson Princeton J. Moore.

Janice leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy: her children, Richard Lacy (Ilene), Karen Lacy-Lewis (Bernard), Billy C. Lacy, and Nichelle E. Lacy; grandchildren, Shoshana Carter (Touré), Delmar A. Hayman, Alanna M. Hayman, Marcus R. Lacy, Domeneque R. Lacy, Niesha N. Cyr (Daniel), Janiece G. Lacy, Amani Y. Dees and Orlando K. Lacy; great grandchildren, Jeovan Lacy-Moore, Ma’at Moore, Ptah Moore and Inara R. Cyr; siblings, Albert E. Hall, and Gwen Allen; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
