Jane H Butler

Carmichael, California

Jane H. Butler, teacher, musician, community volunteer, leader, traveler and mom passed away on her 95th birthday after a gallant battle with Dementia.

Jane was born to Clarence (Smitty) and Alice Smith in Sacramento, CA. She graduated from C. K. McClatchy High School (47), Sacramento City College (49) & Sacramento State College/University (51, 81). She proudly taught 40 years for the San Juan Unified School District (Arcade, Mission Ave, Pershing, and Carriage). She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and served as President of the Eta Alpha chapter.

Music was always Jane's real love. She played trombone in high school and string bass from college until 2015. She shared her music as a member of the Sacramento Symphony, Camellia Symphony, Swing Masters, DMTC orchestra & more recently with the Capital Pops Concert Band. She was a member of the Allied Arts Club and served twice as President.

Jane was a 56 year member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, lla Neb Court and served as High Priestess in 1993. As a volunteer, Jane spent countless hours sewing for the Shriners Hospital pediatric burn institute. She was a 50 year member of the Daughters of the Nile, Menzalah Temple, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rising Star Chapter and served as Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls, Iris Assembly.

Jane was an avid sports fan, keeping her own score cards at River Cats, Giants, A's games, being a member of the Sacramento Raider Rooters and Charter Season Ticket Member for the Sacramento Kings where she was inducted into the Kings 6th Man Hall of Fame in 2010. She loved traveling with Sports Leisure with driving Route 66 being one of her favorites.

Jane is survived by her daughter Glynis Butler-Stone (Andy) and nieces (Dawn and Dale Young). She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband (J. Richard Butler) & sister (Janet Young).

Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Helping Hands Care Home 2, True Care Hospice and A Better Living Home Care for the dignity that they afforded our mom.
