Jack Michael Waters (Mike), 76, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Liza Waters; his three children, Deanna Silvers (and Ken) of Idaho, Jason Waters (and Carly) of Washington, and Mark Waters of Long Beach; his granddaughters Miranda Waters and McKenna Silvers; his sister Patti Cummings (and Paul) of Texas; his mother Anita Waters of Sacramento; and many more family members locally and by marriage in the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Waters.
Mike was born on November 16, 1948, in Visalia, California. His family moved to Elk Grove in 1964. After graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1966, Mike served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Upon his return, he briefly worked at the Army Depot before joining Pacific Bell Telephone Company as a telephone repairman in 1971. He continued his career with the County of Sacramento starting in 1990. Mike also served in the National Guard during the 1980s and held a CB license.
Mike was raised in the Church of Christ and had a deep love for Jesus. He enjoyed taking friends out to lunch and was known for remembering important dates with a card in the mail. Mike had a great sense of humor, often playing practical jokes, including the classic "pull my finger" and wearing googly eyeglasses. He also loved baseball, old TV shows, and discussing conspiracy theories.
A service to celebrate Mike's life will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 10:00 am at East Lawn Elk Grove. All are welcome to attend. His body will be laid to rest the following day at Dixon Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Mike’s memory (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org).
Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His generosity, love, and kazoo birthday wishes will live on in our hearts forever.
