Huyen Tu Doan, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Sacramento on July 30, 2023, six months after his wife of 62 years, Thanh-Tri Thi Nguyen, passed.
Huyen was born on June 6, 1935 in Hue Vietnam. After graduating from Khai Dinh High School, in 1953, he enlisted in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. Proudly serving his country, he was recognized with the military rank of Major, in addition to being chief of the Department of Logistics in the Dong-De National Military Training Center (Truong Ha Si Quan Quan Luc Viet Nam Cong Hoa, Dong De) in Nha-Trang, Vietnam.
When the Vietnam war ended in April 1975, Huyen was sent to re-education camps. He fled Vietnam by boat in 1980, but was captured and imprisoned once more. Seven years later he would immigrate with his family to Sacramento, California.
Huyen is survived by four children - Hung Doan (wife Quyen Diep), Minh-Tam Doan (husband William To), Hau Doan (wife Thuy-Nhu Trinh), and Harvey Doan (wife Tiffany Pham) - six grandchildren - Sylvie Doan, Sophie To, Celine Doan, Lillian Doan, Katie Doan, and Brandon Doan.
Services are held at East Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95819 on August 13 from 09:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.
