Early in the morning on March 30, 2023, Henk Roelofs passed away peacefully in Chico, California at Enloe Hospital. Hendrikus ”Henk” Roelofs was born in Huissen, Netherlands. He was the youngest son of 10 children to Jacobus and Anna Roelofs. In 1954, at the age of 22, Henk immigrated to Canada with his sister, Aleida “Lei,” and her family. In 1959 Henk arrived in America! Living in Broderick, California, Henk worked as a carpenter and waited for his bride, Henny Kuyper. Henk and Henny married on October 1, 1960 and spent the next 62 and one half years happily married.
Henk is survived by his loving wife, Henny Roelofs, his children Annette Elsea and her husband Steve, Jim Roelofs and his wife Julie, and Theresa Roelofs; his grandchildren, Amanda, Avory, Coleman, Ever; and great grandson, Alister. Henk was preceded in death by his grandson, Thaddeus Svoboda.
Henk operated a successful construction and remodeling business. He was known as the “Molding King.” Henk and Henny retired in Gridley, California in 1997. They joined the Lions club, enjoyed serving their community, and made many good friends.
Henk was known for his infectious laugh, wonderful smile and a thick Dutch accent. He loved his family wood working, starting and finishing projects, gardening and all animals. Henk was a good husband, a good father and a good friend. He was a hard worker and loved by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on April 15, 2023, at 11am, at the Presbyterian Church located at 446 Kentucky Street, Gridley, California.
