Helen was born in Santa Ana, California on March 3, 1927 to Aurelio and Teresa Garcia. She was one of 17 children. Helen went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2025; one day after celebrating her 98th birthday. She was preceded in death by her late husbands: Carlos Molina, Ralph Draper, and Ivan Jenkins; many siblings, and two daughters: Barbara Jenkins and Yolanda Garduno. She is survived by three siblings: Aurelio, Isabelle, and Anna; and her children: Ralph, Glenn, Michelle, Gayle, Sydney, Martin, Darlene, Flint, Nelson, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At an early age, Helen was relocated to Sacramento with her parents and siblings and resided in the city for the remainder of her life. At the age of 15, she began her working career and held various jobs over her lifetime. She worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, American Can Company, Del Monte Cannery, and the State of California. For a few years, she also operated Elena’s La Segunda, (a thrift store).
Helen was most proud of her career with the State of California, where she worked 26 years as an elevator operator at the State Capitol. She thoroughly enjoyed greeting visitors, legislators, and staff and was well known for her joyful personality and dedicated service. She brought smiles and laughter to governors and legislators including Honorables Arnold Schwarzenegger, Willie Brown and other office holders. This included a 5 minute radio interview broadcast about her experiences with such well known and powerful political figures.
Helen also enjoyed many hobbies which included bingo, playing slot machines and card games, and watching movies. She was also a loyal viewer of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune episodes. As a very outgoing person, she also liked to tell jokes and dance at family celebrations and social gatherings well into her 90s.
Helen was deeply loved by her family and friends, and made a beautiful and lasting impression on those she met.
Friends and family are welcome at all services. Visitation at East Lawn Cemetery Chapel, 4300 Folsom Blvd Sacramento, CA 95819 on Thursday, March 20th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Viewing Service at 10:00am with funeral service at 11:00 am at East Lawn Cemetery Chapel on Friday, March 21st. Graveside service and reception to follow onsite.
