Gloria Babasa Cunanan of Sacramento, CA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born to Timoteo and Emiliana (Marinda) Babasa on September 6, 1944, in Cullat, Daraga, Albay Philippines.
Gloria had always been dedicated to her family. She helped take care of her mother, brothers and sisters at an early age while her father was away serving in the United States Army. She was one of the first of her siblings to be granted American citizenship and joined her father in San Francisco, CA in the mid 1960’s. In June 1969, she returned to the Philippines to marry her sweetheart, Bonifacio Cunanan, Jr. after they exchanged love letters for approximately two years. They built a future together beginning in Daly City, CA then eventually moved to San Jose, CA where they spent over twenty years. During that time, Gloria and Bonifacio helped additional family members transition to the United States from the Philippines.
Gloria dedicated over thirty years of service to AT&T where she was a telecommunications dispatcher. Gloria and Bonifacio also had their own business managing a care home for retired veterans. After a long and honorable career, Gloria retired to Sacramento, CA where she cared for Bonifacio until he passed away in 2016. When Gloria was presented with life’s challenges, she persevered with hard work, good intentions and a subtle sense of humor.
Gloria will be incredibly missed by her children Rosalinda, Arnold, and Suzanne, along with her grandchildren Darren, Emmalyn, Jack, Chrissy, Taylor, Dominic and Claire. In addition, she is survived by her siblings Virginia, Dolores and Josephina along with their respective families.
