Gin So Tam, 97, of Sacramento, California, entered into the presence of Jesus Christ peacefully on June 30, 2023.
Gin So Wong was born on September 18, 1925 in Toisan, Guangdong, China.
Gin So was the second eldest of four children of Don Ken and Guey Yee Lee Wong.
Gin So grew up in China at the onset and through World War II. She lived in time of great instability, experiencing the terror of war and the misery of starvation.
Gin So was married to Yok Tong Tam in 1946. Gin So had a daughter. Unfortunately, she did not survive. She then had a son, Foon Sang aka Bill born in Toisan, China.
In 1952, the family moved to Hong Kong. Her second son Lip was born there.
Shortly afterward, her husband immigrated to Montreal, Canada to work. Gin So raised her two sons as a single parent but eventually immigrated to Montreal, Canada to join her husband in the early 1960's. The family grew with the births of Lanna, Kenny and Kevin.
In the early 70's, the family had the opportunity to move to Sacramento, California.
Gin So's love language was definitely the act of kindness and service. She took care of many of the grandchildren during her retirement years. She loved to cook for the family and would always call the children over to enjoy her soup.
Gin So's parents were Christians. Most of her children also became Christians. After retiring from the cannery, Gin So started to attend Chinese Grace Bible Church. She eventually received Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed attending Sunday School very much and reading her Bible regularly. Gin So was baptized on November 24, 2002.
Gin So was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband Yok Tong; parents Don Ken and Guey Yee Lee Wong; her sisters Gin Oi and Doris; her brother, Stanley; and her grandson Michael.
She is survived by her children: son Bill Tam and daughter-in-law Stella; son Lip Tam and daughter-in-law Mei; daughter Lanna Duval, son-in-law Gerald; son Kenny Tam and daughter-in law Susan; son Kevin Tam and daughter-in law Sherry; grandchildren David Tam & wife Kathryn; Angela Nguyen & husband Tim; Mimi Hiraki & husband Takeo; Matthew Duval, Christine Duval, Brandon Tam, Brent Tam and Brian Tam; Great grandson, James Tam.
Service will be held on Sunday, July 16, 1 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento.
