George Masicampo Baladjay

February 24, 1936 — May 19, 2024

Elk Grove

On Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the age of 88, George Masicampo Baladjay, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Elk Grove, California.  George was born on February 24, 1936, in Guihulngan, Philippines, to the late Meliton and Pacita Baladjay. He graduated high school from the Hibbard Institute in Guihulngan and earned his law degree from University of Southern Philippines. In the Philippines he had his own law practice where he routinely defended student protestors and farmers against the regime of former dictator, Ferdinand Marcos. Due to the dangerous political climate of the times, George, at the urging of his wife, Pep, ultimately relocated to the United States in 1982. Two years later, his family would join him in the United States to eventually settle in East Lansing, Michigan and several years later finally settled in Elk Grove, California. While in Michigan, he worked as a budget analyst for the State of Michigan. In California, he worked for Church World Service to raise funds and awareness for disaster relief in developing nations. George will be remembered as the life of the party, always ready with a captivating story or joke to share. He could make life-long friends in a room full of strangers. He loved to play and watch tennis and basketball. He enjoyed sharing details of his various escapades with friends and family. He was deeply rooted in his faith and loved attending church and meditating on the word of God.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Josefa “Pep”, his parents, Meliton and Pacita, and brother, Ralph.  George is survived by his elder sister, Luzviminda Saceda; his four daughters, Liza Congjuico (husband Jessie), Ley Arquisola (husband Rico), Love Fretland (husband Erik), and Lesley Lindley (husband John); and grandchildren Katrina, Jaine, Jon, Karlo, Amelia, Ethan, and Henry.

George’s family is forever grateful to his care providers at Davita Dialysis Center, care giver Linda, the nursing staff of Vitas Hospice Care, and to the extended family and friends throughout the world for their love and care of George.
