Francis “Frank” Anthony Renzi, age 81, of El Dorado Hills, California, died Saturday, November 2, 2024, following a tenacious battle with cancer.
Born in Sacramento on November 23, 1942, he was the son of Italian immigrants, Giovanni “John” Renzi and Maria Antonetta Russo Renzi. Frank was a 1960 graduate of Sacramento High School and attended college on football scholarships, first at Sacramento City College, then University of the Pacific, before graduating from Sacramento State University.
Frank joined the United States Secret Service in 1968. For three decades, he traveled the country and the world, ensuring the safety of U.S. presidents and their families and successfully chasing down premier counterfeiters. Frank excelled in his work—exemplifying the agency’s credo, “Worthy of Trust and Confidence”—and reached the rank of Special Agent in Charge in California. Following his retirement, Frank spent more than two decades offering his unparalleled protection and security skills to private citizens.
Besides his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother and sister, Nicholas Renzi and Mary Renzi Pieratt. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Rigby Renzi, whom he married on January 2, 1965. He is also survived by his loving daughter, Ann Marz, and her husband Jonathan, of El Dorado Hills. Frank is the devoted grandfather of Benjamin Anthony Marz, Catherine Anne Marz, and Jonathan William Marz, all of whom he adored, and encouraged and coached in their various academic, athletic, and extracurricular pursuits. He is the brother of Joseph Renzi and his wife Diane, of El Dorado Hills. He is the uncle of Michael, John, and Mark Renzi; James (deceased), Johnie, and Marie Pieratt; and Beau Renzi.
Services and interment will be on Saturday, November 9, at 11 a.m. at East Lawn, 4300 Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento. Friends and family are warmly invited.
The family has requested that any remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the American Lung Association.
