Flora Casipit Galban

October 1, 1944 — April 6, 2025

Sacramento

Flora Casipit was born in the town of Mangaldan, Pangasinan, Philippines on October 1, 1944 to Moises Casipit and Catalina Gagasa. Flora was part of a large family and was the 2nd eldest of 12 children. Together, they were raised in the small town of Agoo, LaUnion.

Growing up, Flora assisted her parents with her many siblings and enjoyed reading and math. She received high marks throughout school and went on to college, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Pangasinan Normal School. Flora became an elementary school teacher and taught 5th grade students for several years.

On January 4, 1970, Flora married her long time sweetheart, Robert “Bobby” Galban. They immigrated to the United States and settled in San Francisco, CA. They were blessed with four children, Ronald, Tina, Divina, and Robert Jr. Flora held odd jobs once in the states but eventually was hired as a young computer operator at Bank of America. Through her hard work and commitment, she ended a 37 year career with BofA as an Assistant Vice President and Senior Personal Banker.

In addition to providing for her family, Flora never forgot her roots in the Philippines and in education. She assisted in bringing many of her siblings to the United States and enjoyed serving in leadership positions with the Global St. Mary’s Academy Alumni Association. Through GSMA, Flora assisted impoverished students in her hometown of Agoo by raising funds for their education.

Over the years, their family of 4 children grew to include sons and a daughter-in-law and 6 grandchildren, Alexandra, Devin, Dominic, Toni Janine, Chloe, and Jasmine. After moving to Sacramento, Bobby and Flora spent their retirement years with family and being a big part of their grandchildren’s lives. Together they helped babysit their growing family and attended countless after school activities. Weekends at Grandma and Grandpa’s house became known as “Camp Galban” where the grandkids were spoiled rotten with Flora’s home cooked meals and Bobby’s trips to McDonald’s and 7 Eleven for their favorite snacks.

Flora’s love for family also extended to her love of God and faith as she prayed the Rosary daily with special intentions for her kids, grandkids, and any who were sick or suffering. On November 7, 2021, Bobby passed away due to complIcations from an accidental fall and a large absence was left in her heart. Although life was never the same without her husband, Flora continued on and stayed in touch with friends and family through social media and nightly phone calls.

Flora is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, Mark Taniguchi and Kristine Van; her 6 grandchildren; and 4 of her siblings, Romeo Casipit, Thomas Casipit, Vicky Mortero, and Moises Casipit, Jr. In death, she is reunited with her forever love, Bobby Galban, her parents, and 7 of her siblings.
