Flaviana Joven Biag

January 6, 1925 — October 1, 2023

FLAVIANA RESUELLO-JOVEN BIAG, beloved “Amang” to her children, dear
“Janing” to her family and friends, was born on January 6, 1925 to Maria
Resuello of Bocboc, San Carlos City and Rafael Joven of Buer, Aguilar in
Pangasinan, Philippines.
Janing is the 2nd of 10 children. She has joined in eternal repose her siblings
Teresa, Emilio, Julieta, Fortunata, Titang, Eugenio, Guillermo, and Eduardo
(who recently passed 9/25/23). She is survived by her youngest sister Lydia,
her children Gloria, Ben, Pepe, Betty, Nestor, Estella, Gerry, Dadong, and
Ronnie, and their spouses, and 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Janing grew up in Bocboc, San Carlos City. Her father Rafael was a
“negosyante” and in the course of his business trips, he met the Family Biag
who were major landowners in Buer. She had gone to school with Nicholas
Antigua Biag (RIP 1920-2013), and soon enough, their parents “matched”
them with each other. Janing and Nicolas were about 20-25 yrs old when
they married in 1945. They were very hard-working parents, supporting a
large family of 6 boys and 3 girls, through selling products of the land: rice
grown from their farm lands and pigs nurtured by their hands, especially by
Janing.
One of the children, Gloria, petitioned her Amang to immigrate to America to
help care for her grandchildren Nelson and Nicholas. Janing arrived in
Carnesville, Georgia in October 1979. Her husband Nicolas joined her by
1980. Between caring for their grandchildren and working in a chicken farm,
they soon became homesick for the language, the relatives and the ways of
the old country.
Eventually, Janing and Nicolas made their way to Sacramento CA around
1981 where they enjoyed the proximity of close relatives, including the
remainder of their children whom they had petitioned. Janing continued being
productive and worked as a housekeeper until 1987, when at age 62, she
“retired” by decree of her children.
She loved music, especially the kind you can dance to. She loved to sing and
her favorite is one of Pangasinan’s eternal love songs, “Malinac Lay Labi.”
She went on shopping “adventures” of the Sale kind, traveling by bus around
town. Her smile, her laugh comes from her soul and is uplifting to those who
receive it. Above all, AMANG JANING loved God! And her abiding words to
her children is “give thanks and pray always!”
