Fariborz “Fred” Mofidi peacefully left this Earth in his sleep at the age of 90 on Sunday,
September 21st at 6:30 pm in Placerville, California, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in
Tehran, Iran on August 20th 1935 to his loving parents, Mahmoud Mofidi and Fatemeh Sayed Ibrahimi.
Fred was a very devoted husband to his wife Barbara “Barbie” Mofidi and a stout father to his three boys.
He was always very welcoming and a “Happy Go Lucky” type of guy to anyone he met along his
journeys.
Fred knew at a very young age that he wanted a more fulfilling life, so at the age of twenty years
old, he immigrated to the United States of America. After becoming a United States citizen, and obtaining
an Associates degree in Art from Napa City College, he then married his wife, Barbara on October 28th
1967. His beautiful life had just started to flourish. They initially settled in the Oakland hills, California
then moved to the heat of Palm Springs in the Summer of 1978. From there, after the children left the
nest, they moved to Napa, California then Kelseyville, California. They ultimately settled in Sacramento
to be closer to family. All the while and shortly after coming to America, he strove to bring his Iranian
family closer to him. He worked patiently and diligently and sponsored his numerous brothers and sisters
to also come to America so they too could enjoy a better life. His unselfish actions stood out largely
amongst others. Recently, in the past 5-10 years he even assisted his nephew to immigrate to the United
States.
Fred was a very hardworking and dedicated family man. For his three children, he instilled in
them the values to be hard working and to strive for their dreams. Even though he didn’t clearly say it all
the time, he lived it, day in and day out, and they learned it. Fred spent a lot of years working in the
hospitality industry at restaurants such as Alioto’s on the wharf in San Francisco, California, and
Dominicks on Restaurant Row in Rancho Mirage, California. He was Blessed to have met, rubbed
shoulders with, shook hands and served dinner and drinks to some well-known movie stars such as Frank
Sinatra, Bob Hope, and Sammy Davis Jr., to name a few. Waiting tables even brought him into the
competitive waiter realm. He competed at the local level in Palm Springs, where he earned the
opportunity to travel to New York and Puerto Rico, competing against other waiters. The competition
involved carrying a few full wine glasses on a serving tray while racing (Speed walking) from one point
to the next. The winner was the participant who spilled the least amount. Fred was so gifed with this trade
that it was with no surprise that he won! At the same time while waiting tables at high end restaurants, he
opened his own pool cleaning business. His clients loved him and he loved maintaining their pools, one of
which even included Frank Sinatras pool!
Fred’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was. These helped shape his personal life.
Hobbies included weight lifting and cooking, especially making Persian dishes at home. He loved to cook
with garlic and onions, just as much as he loved to care for and do things for others. You could literally
smell the garlic coming from his pores, as he ate so much! He even kept cloves in his pocket to snack on.
You would never see him sitting idle- he was always on the move. Even late in life, you would see him on
his bright blue-colored, American flag flying scooter riding around town. Fred could not stay still. He
loved to work, and work hard for what he had. His joy in life was seeing his children flourish and have
fun with the opportunities that were provided to them from his dedicated hard work. Whether that was by
purchasing their first car(s), financially supporting them through higher education or assisting with the
purchase of a first home. His hard work and determination paid off dividends for us all. He loved being
around other people. Everywhere he went, he would strike up a conversation with the people he knew, or
even random strangers. He lived to help others in whatever way he could. He thrived by the energy that
was shared when babysitting his youngest granddaughter. He truly looked forward to the days when he
could be of help.
Fred is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Alexander Alex (Tracey), Hassan John (Carolyn),
and Dean Darius (Desiree); brother Farazan “Frank” Mofidi and sister-in-law Fereshteh and their
daughters Mandana, Mitra and Monica; his grandchildren Anna Marie Giffin (Ryan), Nicholas Matthew
Mofidi, Madisyn Arya Mendoza Mofidi, Natalie Joy Mofidi, Jacob Mofidi, Ethan Mofidi, Elaina Mofidi,
and Elliott Mofidi. He was loved by so many extended family members and life-long friends.
He will be missed dearly, but we find comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven with our Lord,
Jesus Christ. He is now reunited with friends and family members who have left before him; joking and
spending his time rejoicing in all the good times they had. Fred’s legacy will live on in the lessons he
taught us and the love he shared. The memories of him will be remembered forever.
Memorial services will be held on October 25th at 11:00am at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300
Folsom Blvd in Sacramento, California, 95819. Shortly following his memorial services, he will be laid to
rest in his Eternal home.
