Emma Valene Johnson

Valene was born April 24, 1927 to wonderful parents Orson Vale Lee and Ruby Ellen Wedge, and passed away in Sacramento, California on November 22, 2024. She was 97 years old. She is survived by son James Johnson, daughter Valene Lenore Soykin (Lenny), and daughter Vicki Snyder; grandchildren Leroy Johnson, Sean Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Lance Snyder, Kristen Snyder, Scott Soykin, and Ryan Soykin. She is also survived by niece Allyn Lee, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. 

Valene spent her early years in Nevada before moving to California as a teenager. She attended UCLA where she met her handsome husband, Arthur Johnson. They both enjoyed dancing and were in several square dance clubs and a ballroom dance club. Their love for square dancing took them to various destinations for square dance events, including Canada. They loved going to the family cabin in Twain Harte, surrounded by the beauty of the mountains and pine trees. They took their three children on many wonderful camping trips. She also enjoyed visiting the magnificent ocean. As a family we had a lot of fun playing card games and board games.

Valene was an excellent mother and homemaker, and was loved by all. She also was a skilled seamstress and liked doing other crafts like knitting and embroidery. Reading was one of her favorite things to do. She was truly beautiful inside and out. She was kind and loving. I think her most precious memories are of time spent with her family. Her legacy of love and warmth will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who loved her.
