Elisabeth Adair Leonard

April 18, 1938 — July 31, 2024

Orangevale

On July 31, 2024, Elisabeth “Adair” Leonard (Chalmers), took an angel’s hand and was led to be with the Lord where she was greeted by and reunited with the people and pets who love her and went before. Her departure to Heaven was peaceful, and not alone, while being sung “All is Well With My Soul”.

Adair was born April 18, 1938 to James and Beth Chalmers. She always had fond memories of her time spent at Aunt Margaret’s. She enjoyed playing with her dolls, being with her friends and she loved her pets. She attended Bible Camp at Mount Hermon for several years. After graduating from CK McClatchy High School, she went to work for the State of California.

In 1958 she married Albert Cross and went on to have three children, Susan, Karyn, and Robert. In 1969, Adair became a single working mother, and tried to wear all of the “hats” that comes with raising three children on her own. The challenges during these years were many for her, but the over ruling constant was how much she loved being a mother. With the little time left for herself, she enjoyed dancing and was an especially amazing swing dancer.

In 1998 she retired from the State and spent more time with her companion and her grandchildren. Her grandchildren have lasting, happy memories of time spent with her and she truly cherished those times, feeling so much love. She traveled, enjoyed gardening and her beloved cats. She adored her cats and there were none more fortunate than they. Adair volunteered at Happy Tails and she had a passionate love for all animals. She was fearless in her pursuit to help as many animals as she could, and to raise awareness to the horrors of animal abuse. Over the years, there were a number of issues she took a stand on, and no one could deny that she was unafraid of speaking up on what she believed in.

Adair was loved and cherished by her family, and our hearts ache for her presence, but we know that one day we will see her again.

Waiting for her at the Door to Heaven were her mother and father, her Aunt Margaret, her brother William, two grandsons , and many Aunts and Uncles.

She is survived by her three children, Susan, Karyn (Rex), Robert (Kelly), nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren

Adair’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring people at All Seasons of Life for partnering with them to surround her with love and laughter.

A celebration of her life service will be held at East Lawn, 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento on August 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to the ASPCA of Sacramento, a cause that she felt strongly about.
