Elaine Anne Flavetta

October 30, 1950 — September 20, 2024

Elaine Anne Flavetta passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024 in Sacramento.

The third of four children, Elaine was born in Concord on October 30, 1950 to the late Salvatore Flavetta and Vivian (Pratt) Flavetta. Elaine attended Blackford High School and grew up in San Jose. She later moved to Redwood City and put herself through Cañada College. She ran a printing press at Stanford University before starting a career in public works for the county of San Mateo.

In 1991, she had her daughter, Geanna, and the two of them were two peas in a pod from that moment forward. Elaine was a devoted mother. Despite being a single mom and working full time, she always made an effort to chaperone field trips, help with homework (not math), and never miss a single extracurricular activity of Geanna’s. They moved to Sacramento in 2000 and Elaine spent the rest of her career as an accountant at various construction companies in the Sacramento area.

While Elaine was an exceptionally hard worker in her career, her life was one dedicated to the service of others. From rocking babies in the NICU to helping refugees get acclimated to the US to volunteering at her church, Elaine lived to make the world a better place. From fighting for equal rights of the marginalized as a teen flower child to working with the unhoused through her church until her passing, no cause was too small for Elaine. She was never afraid to engage friends, family, or strangers in conversation about how important it is to love and care for those in your local and global communities.

As a retiree and empty nester, Elaine spent her days in her garden and at the gym. She enjoyed traveling with and to family and friends. She loved to read and watch shows “with no mean people” in them. Elaine was a superb cook and made incredible meals with the food from her garden.

Elaine radiated warmth and was always quick with a joke. She was a fierce, loyal friend. She was never one for the spotlight, but her presence was always felt. She was so supremely thoughtful, generous, and loved her people with every fiber of her being.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother David of Keno, Oregon. She is succeeded by her brothers Ronald of San Jose and Keith of San Ramon. Elaine also leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Geanna and John Michael Flavetta of Hartford, CT and her granddaughter Carmen Flavetta of Hartford, CT. She is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Her celebration of life will be on October 9th at 11am at Midtown Church, 2225 19th St, Sacramento, CA. She requested that everyone wear bright colors instead of black. Her favorite color was purple.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to a local nonprofit dedicated to bettering the lives of women or securing women’s access to reproductive health care. In Sacramento, please give to WEAVE, Inc. or Wellspring Women’s Shelter.
