Eileen F. Riesinger

1936 - 2024

It is with a heavy heart we announce that Eileen F. Riesinger passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024. She was 87 years old. Eileen, known as Oma to her family, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who touched the lives of all those she met. She will be deeply missed.

Eileen was born October 10, 1936 in Bellport, Long Island, New York. She received her nursing degree from New York Foundling Hospital in 1957. Shortly after, she “came West” on a bus to Sacramento, CA with her best friend. She met the love of her life, Tony, on a blind date. They were happily married for 60 years. Both Eileen and Tony were “rebels” in the family because they moved West. Some of her best memories came from traveling the world with Tony.

Eileen was a Special Education Teacher’s Associate in the Sacramento Unified School District for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 65 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and was especially proud of her work on the Board of Reconciliation. In her later years, she was heavily involved in volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, Francis House, Sacramento Self Help Housing, Brother Martin’s Courtyard, and Family Promise. Eileen had a passion for social issues which was reflected in her involvement on the Peace Action Board and Grandmother's for Peace. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society.

Eileen is survived by her daughter Debra (Don), son Scott (Teri); grandchildren Matthew (Kimberly), Jeremy (Heather), Andrew and Sarah; great grandchildren Sadie, Gracie, Noah and Avery; brother-in-law Pete, sister-in-law Rosemary, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 23, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA with a reception to follow. There will be a public viewing Thursday, August 22nd from 4-6 p.m. at East Lawn.
