Đức Vũ Gia

1959 — 2026

Obituary:

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Vũ Gia Đức, or Duc Vu, on May 27, 2026. He was a beloved husband to Haidee, and a cherished father to Adam and Avery. He is also survived by his two sisters, two nieces, and 4 nephews. He was 67 years old.

Duc was known for his warm smile and adventurous spirit, but what made him special was his quiet, generous heart.

Duc was born in Việt Nam to Vũ Văn Mỹ and Nguyễn Thị Xuyên. He was the youngest of 5 siblings. In 1980, 21-year-old Duc and his sister, Tammy, came to the US, where Duc worked his way up to an Equipment Maintenance Technician 4. This helped pave the way for his family to follow, reuniting them in the States.

It was in the workplace that Duc and Haidee first met. Duc regularly offered to take her to lunch, a friendly gesture he made with coworkers. Haidee said yes just once; it was the year 2000, and since then, they have built a beautiful love and life together.

Duc was an adventurer at heart. Curious about snowboarding, Duc drove himself up to the mountains and learned to snowboard. He was always up for trying new things, whether it was the challenge of fixing something broken, or taking the kids white water rafting for the first time. Duc knew how to live life, and he loved it.

Duc showed his deep love for his people through endless acts of generosity. When Tammy’s husband passed, Duc stepped in to help raise her children. When a good friend needed a new roof on his house, Duc replaced it himself, not expecting nor accepting anything in return. Old coworkers’ faces lit up to hear from him long after they stopped working with him. From school parents he joked with while waiting to pick up the kids, to his closest loved ones, he was a kind and loving presence to anyone who knew him.

And there was no one Duc loved more than his kids, Avery and Adam. Last Christmas, he got ahold of the kids’ wishlists and bought everything on their lists. As the packages began arriving at the house, he could not wait to give them their gifts, so he didn’t. They all joked that there would be no presents to unwrap come Christmas Day. That’s the kind of father and man he was. He gave his family everything he could, and all of himself: intentionally, generously, and unapologetically.

Haidee, Adam, and Avery invite family and friends to honor Duc’s memory on Saturday, June 20, at 10 o’clock in the morning at East Lawn Elk Grove in Elk Grove, CA (9189 E Stockton Blvd).
