Dorothy Mae Freeman January 20th, 1944 – September 3rd, 2024.
Dottie passed away on September 3rd, 2024, in Roseville CA from complications due to health. Dorothy was born January 20th, 1944, in Humphrey, Arkansas. Daughter of Louise and Lonnie Hodges. Dottie was one of Nine. She is proceeded in death by Calvin, Gary, Virginia, Lawrence, Leaonard. Survived by Margaret, Leslie and David.
Dorothy was adopted and moved to Mabelvale Arkansas at 13 years old being adopted by Gracie and Larmon Vanwinkle with her two brothers Leslie and Calvin. She Graduated Mabelvale High School in 1962.
She then moved to Springfield Missouri with her aunt and started in the banking industry at Union National Bank. It was here that on a night out at a car hop with a girl she hung with. Dottie would not get in the car with her friend to race. This is when the love of her life Gene would see her sitting on a curb for the first time.
In 1964 Gene sent her an engagement ring in the mail and came to Sanger California to marry Ervin (Gene) Freeman. In 1965 they moved to San Francisco when Gene went to work for the State of California. Dottie went to work at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco. In 1967 they moved to Sacramento. In 1970 Their son Greg was born and n 1972 Staci was born. At this time she stayed home to raise them both. In 1976 they moved to Sanger and in 1977 she went back to work part time at Bank of America. She eventually went full time. She also worked at many branches in the Central Valley. In 1986 They moved to Elk Grove, CA and she went to work in the electronic transfers division of Bank America in Downtown Sacramento. She eventually helped open the first Consolidated Cash Vault in West Sacramento where she was a manager.
In 2001 Dorrie retired from Bank of America. She and Gene purchased a motorhome and spent the next year traveling all over the United States following the World of Outlaws.
In the passing in the love of her life Gene she moved to Roseville in 2018. This is where she met her friends the Golden Girls. They would go on many outings together, being mischievous.
Dottie enjoyed reading and spending times with her friends and especially her Kids and Grandkids.
Dorothy is survived by her son Greg Freeman and his wife Stefanie of Clovis, CA, daughter Staci Humphers & her husband Paul of Roseville, CA, grand-daughters, Kieli & Mekenzi Humphers & Stella Freeman, sister Margaret Miller of Nampa, Idaho, bothers Leslie Vanwinkle of Ozark, Missouri, and David Hodges of Lonoke, Arkansas.
Service will be held at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA on September 10th, viewing at 10:30 and service at 11:00.
