Donald Yoshiaki Sako, known by Don to his family and friends, passed away at the age of 90 at his home in Elk Grove, California on April 23, 2025. He was a loving husband to Jea Sook Sako and they were married for 50 years.Don was born on November 14, 1934 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the youngest child born to Suekichi Sako and Yaeko Ouchi Sako and he had two older sisters. He had fond childhood memories of running barefoot to play at Waikiki beach. Don enlisted in the Hawaii Army Reserve when he was 17 years old and served for two years, then he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was trained in mechanical engineering. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1955 as a private first class, Don worked for 32 years as a mechanical engineering technician for Aerojet and the Army Depot. In his retirement, he owned and operated Honey Treat Yogurt shop in the Florin Mall. He was an avid bowler, a long-time practitioner of Tai Chi, and he enjoyed watching sports.Don lived a full life marked by service and kindness. He is survived by his wife Jea, his two sons, Alan and David, his daughter-in-law Corrine and his son-in-law Steve, his grandson Jackson, and his dog Blossom. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 7, 2025 10am at East Lawn Memorial Elk Grove, followed by a graveside service.
