Diane Lynn Edwards

After a long battle and more than five months in hospice care, Diane Edwards passed away on March 26, 2023, at home. Diane was born in Sacramento, California January 19, 1946. The youngest of five children (Sam, Dale, Spike, and Sharon), Diane was a “city-girl”, always making her way back to the central city of Sacramento that she called home. Referred to affectionately by her son and extended family as “Mumsy,” Diane graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1963, and began her working years as a clerk in the downtown Sacramento Weinstock’s Toy Department. From there Diane became an insurance underwriter for many years, afterward becoming a practiced bartender while she earned her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from California State University, Sacramento. After 20 years of public service, Diane retired from the State Water Resources Control Board as an Environmental Scientist III in 2005.  

Diane was a loving mother to her son, a loyal friend, and was good-heartedly rebellious throughout her life. In her younger years, her home was often a party hub. She made friends easily in the crowds in which she ran and was always attracted to alternative lifestyles. She loved to have fun, where play was her primary focus, while also being a responsible homeowner and maintaining her career. Her life experiences included the highs of meeting the love of her life, Geoffrey, in 1968 and having some of the best years of her life, to losing him to suicide in 1978. Other major losses included her beloved brother Dale in 1984 and her equally beloved sister Sharon in 2016. Diane had many loving and caring friends in her life until the end, and is survived by her sister Sam, her brother Spike, her son David, her niece Dee, and other beloved extended family.
