On Sunday, July 4th, 2021, Deric Timothy Hammock was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 54. The world lost a great Son, Brother, Father and Leader. Deric also affectionately called "D" or Uncle D and was born in Los Angeles, CA with a companion, his twin brother Eric Hammond on December 31, 1966. He was baptized as a child to the Catholic faith and raised as a Christian. Deric also gave his life to the Lord as an adult.
He attended Lexington Elementary School in Pomona, CA until the age of nine years old. He then relocated to Sacramento, CA, with his mother and twin brother Eric. There he attended Northwood Elementary, Rio Terra Jr. High and Grant High School. He was a skilled football player who played running back at Grant High School.
Deric was a Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend to many. He was an outgoing and giving man, with an easy light up the room smile, who loved people. He made friends easily and loved to make people laugh. If you asked Deric what his greatest accomplishment was, he would say it was being a father.
Deric loved fried chicken and juice! If he could have, he would have lived off fried chicken and juice. He tried. He loved cars, his favorite car being an Escalade. He also loved music and sports and was a big Raiders fan. Most of his working life centered around driving. One of his favorite jobs in Sacramento was delivery driving for a company called RPS. He worked a variety of other jobs that included Southwest Airlines, and The Dot printer in Irvine.
In 2010 he had an unfortunate accidental fall and sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) which lasted for the rest of his life. For the next eleven years he fought heroically to regain mobility and a better quality of life. Never complaining, always compliant through rehabilitation exercises at UC Davis, Kaiser and other physical rehabilitation facilities. At UC Davis, he briefly progressed to be able to stand and with the aid of a walker, and took a few steps between 2012-2014.
Deric is survived by his five children to celebrate and honor his life: Ashley Marie Hammock, Jazmine Hammock, Deric Hammock Jr., Matteo Hammock, Angelica Hammock, and stepson Julian Scott. As well as their mothers, Gina, Angela, Tami and JoJo, three grand-children Kayleigh, Ekene, and Eastyn, siblings Eric Hammock, Walter Hammock (Tonia), Cecil Hammock (Cheryl), Carol Evers, Kathleen Hammock, Robert Hammock (Loretta), and Sidney Hammock. God-Sister Marian Pope, friend Kali Harris, aunts, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Hammock Sr., Barbara Hammock, and brother Errol Tyrone Hammock. Many thanks to the dedicated therapists, doctors and nurses at UC Davis, Sutter and Mercy Hospitals, teacher-trainers at American River College, trainers at Sci-Fit Sacramento, and Burger-Rehab.
