Deborah Nell Stewart

Deborah Nell Stewart, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cherished family member and friend, passed away peacefully on July 12th, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by her loving family in Sacramento, California. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 P.M. on July 31st, 2026 at East Lawn South Sacramento. 

Deborah was known for her encouraging spirit, unwavering faith in God, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her compassionate heart and servant's spirit touched the lives of many.

Deborah was born on August 14, 1951 in Houston, Texas to Marzell Cook Sr. and Johnnie Mae Cook. She received her early education in Houston and later attended Sacramento City College.

On February 1, 1968, Deborah married Richard James Stewart Sr. in Houston Texas. They shared many years until his passing on October 9, 1983.

Deborah devoted more than 30 years as an administrative assistant for various companies and served faithfully as a church administrator for many years. Her commitment to ministry was reflected in her service as an ordained deaconess, chaplain, and licensed missionary. At the time of her passing, she was in the process of becoming an ordained minister, continuing her lifelong dedication to God and service to others.  

Deborah was preceded in death by her husband, Richard James Stewart Sr.; her parents Marzell Cook Sr. and Johnnie Mae Cook; and her brothers, Forest Cook Sr. and Gary "Commodore" Cook Sr. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her three children, Darryl (Tracey) Cook, Richard James Jr (Courtney) Stewart, and Sharita-Stewart-Christopher; two brothers, Marzell Cook Jr. and John Perry (Carolyn) Cook; grandchildren Lawrence, Dinishia, Ashley, Terrance, Darryl II, Richard III, Tori, Terryn, Carlissa, Amber and Camryn; nineteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, a host of special friends; and her loving church family. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all her caregivers for their compassionate care.
