David R. Torres, 78 years old, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, in Folsom, California. He was born on September 8, 1946, in Robstown, Texas, to Pablo and Francisca Torres. He was a resident of Texas until he moved to California around 1961, and attended King City High School, graduating in 1967.
David joined the King City Police Department as a Reserve right after high school to start his law enforcement career. He married Mary L. Patty from Pacific Grove, California, on February 27, 1972, in King City. His twenty-six years on the force led him to earning promotions from Officer to Sergeant, and eventually to Chief of Police.
David was an active husband/father/grandfather, enjoying snowmobiling, photography, woodworking, gardening, eating sugar cookies, rooting for the San Francisco Giants alongside his wife, spending time at his family’s cabin in Calaveras County, and traveling to parks all over the western states. David spent many years watching and photographing his son play baseball, softball, and bowling.
Early on in his life, he did not speak much of his Native American lineage, but gradually embraced it more and more later in life, after watching his daughter fully embrace it. For the last three years of his life, he was honored at his local Native American Elders Festival.
David is survived by his wife, Mary L. Torres, two children; Christina and Travis, two grandchildren; Brody and Zane, two cats; Oreo and Sir Snugglepus, as well as extended family members. He is preceded in death by his two granddaughters, Cheyenne and Selphie.
Family, friends, and others are invited to a graveside service at Mission Memorial Park, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue Seaside, CA at 11:00 A.M. on March 8, 2025. There will be a celebration of life following the graveside service at his family's home.
