David Albert Miller

David Miller passed away at his home in Elverta, California on the evening of Sunday, July 2^nd, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Dave was born on February 11, 1943 in Grass Valley, CA, to Albert and Adah Marie Miller; Dave was their only child. Albert was taken by Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1950, the same disease that would eventually take Dave in 2023.

Dave was the big brother to five sisters: Terri, Denise, Dani, Dori, and Devon, who called him a giant, which he was to many including his wife Diana and his daughter Savanna. All these women survive him. He was preceded in death by his son Miles in 2007. 

Dave (or Bicycle Dave as he was known since 2017) was a man of quiet demeanor, a kind nature, and a quick wit. A lover of books, he was often seen riding his electric trike to the Rio Linda Library with his trusty dog Steve in tow. A filmmaker by trade, Dave worked for various local television stations since the 1970s, before leading the CHP’s radio and television department until his retirement in 2010.

One of Dave’s proudest achievements was the house he built in Elverta. Beginning in the early 1980s, Dave and his wife Diana, built a small cabin in the middle of an olive grove that would transform and grow over the decades to hold a family of four and an extended family of dozens. A place of comfort and joy to many, Dave would often open the home he built to anyone who needed a place to stay. Many will recall Dave, in his usual Hawaiian shirt, lighting fireworks by the pool on Fourth of July parties, much to the delight of his children and their friends.

In keeping with Dave’s spirit, his family will be holding a Hawaiian themed Celebration of Life at East Lawn Memorial Park at 4300 Folsom Blvd in Sacramento, CA on Friday, October 27^th, 2023 at 2pm. He will be laid to rest next to his son Miles.
