David Chin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, proud veteran, and cherished member of the Sacramento community for nearly 70 years, passed away peacefully in Sacramento, California, on April 19, 2025. He was 98 years old.
Born in Barnstable, Massachusetts in 1926, David grew up working in his family's laundry business. He answered the call to duty and bravely served in the United States Navy during World War II, contributing to the Allied victory.
Following his honorable service, he met his wife, Tenley, returned to Massachusetts, and set up his own laundry business. Leaving the cold weather behind, David moved west, settling in Sacramento in 1955. It was here he built his life with his beloved wife, raised his family, and became a familiar face in the community. David dedicated 27 years of service as a friendly and reliable letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Sacramento. Many also fondly remember him from his time as a server at the Asia Cafe.
David was a man of many interests. He was an avid sports fan, following all sports but holding a special passion for baseball. He was also a keen Pinochle player, always ready for a challenging game with friends. In his well-deserved retirement, David embraced his love for adventure and travel, cruising the world and exploring the diverse cultures of Asia and Europe multiple times alongside Tenley and family.
He now joins his beloved wife, Tenley, son, Vernon, and grandson, David, all who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his three daughters: Maria, Ellen, and Gale. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Eric, Janette, Courtney, Keith, Aaron, Kristen, and Melissa. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Hunter, Parker, Tara, Tessa, Jaxon, Braxton, Zaxton, Cameron, Samantha, and London. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Stanley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Nothing brought David more joy than being surrounded by his family, and he took immense pride in watching his great-grandchildren grow. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories.
David's presence, stories, unwavering support, and dedication to his family will be deeply missed.
