Darrell L. Bray, age 91, passed away March 10, 2022 of natural causes. He passed away with his family by his side at Mercy Hospital in Folsom California.
He was born in Arkansas on October 18, 1930. After moving with his family to California, he graduated from Modesto High and enlisted in the Air Force. Darrell served as a Senior Tactical Reconnaissance Photographer while stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1954. Following his military service, Darrell moved to San Francisco, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from San Francisco State University in 1959.
Darrell moved to Sacramento with his wife Freddie L. Bray in 1960, where they had two children. Darrell worked for the State of California for many years with the Youth Authority before retiring in 1992. In 1980, Darrell married Alauna Bowa. They moved to Shingle Springs in 1989 and joined a community of friends.
He was an avid reader and farmer, and served as the president of the El Dorado County Farm Trails and was fondly known as âthe tomato manâ to his friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his daughter, Darrelyn Bray Casey of Rancho Cordova; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Julie Bray of Elk Grove; brothers, Adrian, Jack, and Radus; sister-in-law, Karen Berg; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alauna Bray; parents, James L. Bray and Georgia M. Bray; sister, Marilyn Burdge; and son, William White.
Funeral services will take place at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon on Monday, March 28 at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to meet at Budâs Pub & Grill in Dixon after the ceremony. Any donations can be made to the American Heart Association and/or the American Cancer Society.
