Darlene Walker of Sacramento passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born on February 15, 1929, in Arnold, Nebraska. Darlene later moved to California with her family, where she attended Oakland Technical High School and met Wiley Walker, Jr. They were married in June 1948. At the time of Wiley’s passing in 2007, they had been married 58years. They were both longtime members of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Darlene started working for the State of California, Department of Rehabilitation, in 1969 where she became a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. She loved her job and the opportunity it provided her to help other blind individuals learn living and technical skills to enrich their independence and quality of life. Darlene retired after 39 years of State Service. After retirement she continued to foster her lifelong friendships. Darlene was an avid knitter, making items for family and friends. She also enjoyed a good book; swapping book titles with many of her friends. Darlene is survived by her daughter Shelli (Michael) Costa; son Brad Walker; grandson Anthony (Kaylan) Costa; nieces and nephews; and many others whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 14th, 11:00am, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5625 24th Street, Sacramento. A private cremation and interment will be at East Lawn Elk Grove at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Society For the Blind, 1238 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
