Corazon “Cora” Cabrera Buan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the age of 90.
She was born on November 12, 1935, in Apalit, Pampanga, Philippines. Orphaned at a young age, Cora was raised with love and care by her relatives, who helped shape her strong values and resilience. She was also mentored by her uncle, Florentino Cabrera, whose guidance played an important role in her personal and professional development.
Cora dedicated over 30 years of her life working at the Rural Bank of Apalit, continuing the legacy of service inspired by her family. Through her work, she assisted farmers, market vendors, and small business owners, offering not only financial guidance but also compassion and encouragement.
In 1971, she married her husband, Patricio Buan, and together they built a life centered on faith and family. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a daughter and a son, whom she raised with love, discipline, and a deep sense of faith.
Cora was a devout Catholic whose life was centered on her relationship with God. She had a profound devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and was an active member of the Church. She served as president of the Apostleship of Prayer, an organization with a long-standing tradition of devotion to the Sacred Heart, reflecting her strong spiritual commitment.
In 1991, she immigrated to the United States with her family and settled in Sacramento, California. Though she was unable to continue her banking career, she remained hardworking and humble, working as a dietary aide. She also continued her commitment to her faith community, serving as a minister of hospitality at St. Ignatius Parish, where she warmly welcomed others and shared her kindness.
At around the age of 65, Cora was diagnosed with dementia. She faced this long and difficult journey with quiet strength and resilience, enduring the illness for over 20 years.
Cora is survived by her husband, Patricio; her children, Mary Catherine and Jessie John; her son-in law, Edwin; her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline; her grandchildren, Jordan James, Jayson Theo and Sean Gabriel; and her extended family in the Philippines and the US. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Gloria, Mary, Jesus and Belen.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her gentle spirit, and her selfless dedication to helping others. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and in the love she gave so freely.
Visitation will be held at East Lawn (5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA 95841) on April 8th and 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Divine Mercy Catholic Church (2231 Club Center Dr., Sacramento, CA 95835) on April 10th at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at East Lawn.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, relatives, and friends who supported and cared for Cora throughout her life.
“Her life was a reflection of faith, service, and love—an example that will continue to guide us always.”
