With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Cleopatra Davis, who departed this life at the age of 92 on October 29, 2024, at 9:50 AM. After a long and courageous health battle, she was called home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience.
Cleopatra Johnson was born on January 26, 1932, in Batesville, Mississippi, to Beatrice Johnson and James Commander. The fourth of eight siblings—Otis Robinson, Thomas Griffin, Lusher Johnson, Lois Foster, Roger Johnson, Edith Harris, Priscilla Harris, and Andrew Harris—she was raised in a Southern Baptist Christian home. Her faith was instilled early by her devoted mother and grandfather, John Ed Thomas, with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church as their family church home.
In 1942, at the age of 10, Cleopatra’s family relocated to Oakland, California, where she would live until age 65. She attended McClymonds High School and dreamed of becoming a movie star and singer. She was active in her community, participating in and winning beauty pageants at DeFremery Park.
Early in her life, Cleopatra met and married Leroy Adams, with whom she had two children: Kathleen Wilson and Leroy Adams. Following their marriage, she married Levi Foy, and together they had seven children: Rose Sharon, Preston, Steven, Carol, David, Timothy, and Pamela Foy. When their marriage ended, Cleopatra became a dedicated single mother, working tirelessly to provide stability and security for her children.
Cleopatra later met James Dearborn, and they had one son, James Dearborn Sr. She eventually married Jenkin Davis until his untimely passing. Known for her warm, generous spirit, Cleopatra opened her home to family, offering a safe haven and a place of love. She loved thrift shopping, gardening, and especially spending time with her family during the holidays, where she joyfully cooked, decorated, and brought everyone together.
A devout Christian, Cleopatra and her children were active members of North Oakland Baptist Church. She had a lifelong passion for music and singing, frequently involved in church choirs where she received multiple awards. Later in life, Cleopatra moved to Sacramento, California, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She found comfort in watching Westerns, listening to music, and playing solitaire. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she cherished seeing her family grow, feeling deeply blessed by each new generation.
Cleopatra was preceded in death by her husband Jenkin Davis, her children Rose Sharon, Preston, and Carol Foy, two grandsons, Corey Foy and Leshon Foy, seven of her siblings, and her parents.
She leaves behind a large, loving family, including her surviving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who will forever cherish her memory. Cleopatra is survived by her youngest sister Edith Harris, her children Kathleen Wilson, Leroy Adams, Steven Foy, David Foy, Timothy Foy, Pamela Foy, and James Dearborn, and her grandchildren Carl Curry, Carletta Curry, Felcia Wilson, Adam Wilson, Andrew Adams, Johnathan Adams, Sharon Adams, Robert Grace, Anthony Grace, Cherron Grace, Charles Howard, Hakeem Howard, Chanel Howard, Keisha Hollis, Steven Foy Jr., Latrice Foy, Jaylen Foy, Andrea Foy, Tyrell Foy, Latisha Foy, Octivia Underwood, Latoya Foy, Andre Foy, Daytrin Foy, Devin Foy, Carl Thornton Jr., Crystal Thornton, Timothy Foy, Ebony Foy, Taniqua Foy, Aaron Dearborn, James Dearborn Jr., Nicolas Dearborn, Jordan Dearborn, and Le'Shawn Dearborn.
