Charles Edward Watson

d. November 19, 2022

Charles Edward Watson, 88, died peacefully on Saturday, November 19 2022 at his residence in Elk Grove, California. He was surrounded by family. Charles was a family man, a patriot, and a nurturer. He was born April 26, 1934 to Summer Watson Sr. and Lillie Beatrice Dailey Watson, in Chestnut, Alabama. When he became of age, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during peace time as a military police officer. He was stationed in Germany, and he enjoyed his time there. He even adopted some casual German words that he would sometimes use for fun. Serving his country was his utmost priority, and when he was discharged from the Army, he advanced to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a supervisor. He was respected amongst everyone he worked with and he performed his job with compassion and kindness, as with everything else he did in life. Charles married the love of his life, Pauline Cynthia Smith Watson, in 1976. He retired from Mare Island, and subsequently decided to devote all of his time to his faith, and his family. He was beloved by his grandchildren, who all hold fond memories of him close to their hearts. He loved nature as well, and had a special talent for enriching the lives of the people, plants, and animals around him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Summer Watson Sr., his mother, Lillie Beatrice Dailey Watson, sisters Iola Watson Simmons and Creola (Cre) Watson Baker, and brother John Henry Watson. He is survived by his loving wife of over fifty years, Pauline Cynthia Smith Watson, his son, Darren Watson (Roshonda), stepdaughter, Angela Adelaide Jackson, granddaughter Kendall (aka Kalina) RN, grandson Desean James (DJ) Watson, grandson Andrew Watson, grandson Darren Watson II (aka ‘Dee’), sister Lillye Watson Harbison, brother Summer Watson (Linda), brother Billie Watson (Angela), sister Shirley Matteson Ryan (Joseph), brother Fred Watson (Shirley), and sister Mabel Hecht (Richard), as well as four great-children, and several nieces and nephews whose hearts are so full of love for him.
