Charles Edward Blanks was a devoted Steelers fan. He was a cherished father, brother, and grandfather who passed away under tragic circumstances on June 23, 2024, in Sacramento, California. He was born on January 15, 1973, in Laurel, Mississippi. Charles lived a life defined by quiet independence, resilience, and a profound love for his family. He wore Steelers attire daily, and this passion, shared with his mother and family, united them in celebration during game days and created cherished memories of togetherness, whether in victory or defeat.
Charles's early years in Laurel were filled with the warmth of a close-knit Southern community and the simple joys of family and friendship. In his preteen years, the family moved to Los Angeles and eventually settled in Sacramento, exposing Charles to diverse experiences that broadened his perspective and enriched his understanding of the world.
As a neurodivergent individual, Charles embraced life with a unique lens, finding strength in his distinctive perspective. His childhood passion for football, especially playing alongside his brother Patrick, showcased his spirited nature. A standout talent with an arm better than any quarterback, Charles and Patrick formed an unstoppable duo on the field 'Turf Tacklers'.Their talent caught the attention of scouts, who offered them both a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join separate teams. However, they declined the offer, unwilling to break their bond. This decision, while it prevented them from pursuing potential sports careers, reinforced Charles's unwavering commitment to prioritizing family, a trait that continued to define his character throughout his life.
After the passing of his beloved mother, who was his source of comfort and inspiration, Charles found solace in the freedom of the open road, journeying between Los Angeles and Sacramento. This route symbolized his enduring quest for independence and a way to honor his mother’s legacy. Despite traveling alone, Charles always carried his family’s love with him, returning with captivating stories of his adventures and encounters.
Despite encountering numerous challenges, Charles was blessed with his precious daughter, Myliyah. She became the light of his life, his inspiration, and his strength. Charles often thought about Myliyah, and the hope of reuniting with her and having her know him as her daddy kept him moving forward. His unwavering love for her was a testament to his enduring commitment to one day hold her in his arms again.
Charles is survived by his beloved daughter, Myliyah Blanks; granddaughter, Blessing Harrell; and devoted siblings: Vernita Blanks Bell, David Blanks, Perdinna Blanks, Patrick Blanks, Jessica Blanks, and Ashanti Blanks Henry. He is also fondly remembered by numerous nephews and nieces..
