Charlene Evelyn McGhee

March 8, 1958 — April 14, 2024

Sacramento

We mournfully announce the passing of Charlene Evelyn McGhee, 66, of Sacramento, California. Charlene passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on April 14, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Charlene, born to Marilyn King and Leroy Best, took her first breath on March 8th, 1958, in Springfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from Comprehensive High School in 1976 and obtained degrees in psychology with a bachelor’s from Westfield State College in 1980 and a master’s from Springfield College in 1981.

After receiving her master’s, she moved to Sacramento where she would put her Psychology degree to work helping youth at the Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home before ultimately working at Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District where she would remain for 34 years until her retirement.

When Charlene retired, she enjoyed getting together with friends, whether that was her walking and wine groups, meeting up around town to enjoy good food, or relishing in their favorite TV series. She also spent time enjoying audiobooks, her plants, and most importantly, her beloved pets, Pepper and Chili.

Charlene lived a full and vibrant life with more friends than you could count. She had a fond and supportive relationship with her sister, Lori, and her nieces, Staci and Janel, meant more to her than words could describe, and she treasured the moments they shared together.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Bradshaw Animal Shelter, making a note of “In Memory of Charlene McGhee.”
