Cecilia F. Mends-Simpson

Cecilia Mends-Simpson of Elk Grove, California was called home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Cecilia was born on May 6, 1963 to the late Kwesi N. Mends and Florence Coleman Mends in Accra, Ghana. She was preceded in death by her parents. 
Cecilia started her education at South Labadi Experimental Primary School. She continued her schooling at Labone Secondary School and the Ghana Government Secretarial School. Cecilia was seconded to the Ministry of Interior where she served as the confidential secretary to the Minister of Interior. 
After a few years, Cecilia joined her brothers in San Jose, California where she obtained an Associate degree and a Bachelor’s degree in business. 
Cecilia married Oliver Anang Simpson in 1992 and they were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Audrey and Brinny. The couple relocated to Union City, California for a few years before finally moving to Elk Grove about 15 years ago.
Cecilia held various business administration positions in Silicon Valley high tech companies including Sun Micro Systems. She was employed by Sacramento County before her untimely passing.
She is survived by her loving husband Oliver, daughters Audrey and Brinny, her God daughter Akofa, her siblings Mercy, Stephen, Evans, Allen, Joan, Kobby, Olive, Efe & Atto, and her paternal aunts Cecilia and Sally. Cecilia also leaves behind numerous cousins, in-laws, nephews and nieces, her “special sisters,” dear friends and her maternal and paternal clans in Ghana and the diaspora.
