Betty Mae Powers
Born March 24, 1926 – May 21, 2023. Betty was born in the family rural home in Wolf District, Nevada County, California. She moved to Sacramento as a young adult where she met Ross Powers. They were married in August of 1947 and raised five sons and one daughter. Betty went to work for Pacific Bell early on and retired in 1980. She was active in Pioneers, which is a volunteer network, for many years and also volunteered for the Sacramento Hearing Society. She was a member of the Red Hats and enjoyed their monthly luncheons and meetings.
After retirement she also worked at Crocker Riverside Elementary School in Sacramento as a yard duty supervisor and befriended many students and staff over the years. This also enabled her to see her grandchildren, Amanda and Adam on a daily basis since they attended Crocker Riverside.
Over the years she also participated in her social network of friends called “The Sewing Club”. After many years the sewing stopped and it became just a time for good friends to get together once a month. She especially enjoyed their annual barbeque, which she hosted.
Betty was a kind hearted woman who was always willing to help others. She always knew her neighbors, their children, and greeted them with a smile and kind words. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Betty will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Powers, brothers: Bob, Carl, Mel, Don and Les Pingree, Sisters: Helen, Catherine and Dorothy. She is survived by her brother Fred Pingree as well as children: Ross Powers, Robert (Ramona) Powers, Dennis (Lana Alexander) Powers, Gary (Debbie) Powers, Tom (Susan) Powers and Cindy (Roy) Jeske, thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
At her request a private family service will be held and a celebration of life at a later date.
