Bessie McFadden

Bessie Lee (Carpenter, Freeman, Bond,) McFadden, 93

Bessie passed away on February 21, 2023, at Arden Park in Sacramento, CA. She came to Arden Park Post-Acute for rehabilitation after hip surgery. She was born Bessie Freeman to Alberta (Carpenter) and John Thomas/Ted Freeman and raised in Jackson,Tennessee. Bessie is survived by her children, James (Phyllis) Bond, Albessa/Becky (Richard) Johnson, Phyllis Mona Lisa (Melvin) Clark, Allen (Theresa) McFadden III; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, a Goddaughter Catrina/Sissy Johnson-Tramill, 3 brothers, JC Turner, Milford Freeman, Amos Freeman, and extended family and friends.
One of Bessie’s greatest accomplishments was that she completed Adult High School earning her HS Diploma. She then enrolled at Alameda Junior College to earn an AA Degree. It was no surprise when she later decided to earn a BA Degree at Sacramento State University. However, during her junior year she suffered a serious injury to her right knee making it impossible for her to continue her education, however her passion for learning continued throughout her life.
Bessie was a devoted Matriarch to her family, she lived a great life and a full life that served as an example to family and others. Those who knew her well, will remember her as a master of all things, in fact, long before sanitizers were a household staple, she was sanitizing everyone and everything with her special bottle of Lysol as she was meticulous at cleaning and organizing. She was also a Master Baker and Gourmet Cook, and blessed many family members and friends with her Carmel cakes and Chess pies. Bessie gave credit for her love of cooking and skills to her Grandmother, Henrietta/Mama Freeman whom she spent many summers with, and cherished that time dearly. The family would like to Thank all those who sent condolences as well as prayers, and they ask that you continue to lift them in prayer. In keeping with her wishes, the viewing will be held for family only, but she leaves with you these words ....Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind, this is the first and greatest Commandment Matthew 22:37
