Bernabe Celle Mercado “Bernie” was born on June 11, 1934, in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, to his loving parents, Gonzalo and Ladislawa Mercado. He is survived by his wife, Norma Saceda Mercado, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. In addition, he is also survived by his children: Jo-Ann Mercado, Norman and Raquel Mercado, and Maria Norbe and Julio Bayate. Throughout his life, he was blessed with four grandchildren: Diane, Dana, Danny, and Christian.

He was a truly kind and considerate man, known for his warm heart and gentle spirit. He cherished the moments spent traveling with his eldest daughter, Jo-Ann, creating lasting memories together. He found extraordinary joy from watching CNN/MSNBC, tennis and baseball and was a huge fan of the New York Yankees. In addition to his love for sports, he also enjoyed watching episodes of Little House on the Prairie and Bonanza.

Prior to his arrival in the United States in 1978, he practiced as a family doctor in Manila, Philippines. After his time in the Philippines, he made the decision to move to New Jersey, where he lived for a significant period. Eventually, he relocated to Elk Grove, California.

Bernie’s legacy will continue to live on through his family and the countless memories they created together.
