Benny Ewing Jr.

February 16, 1944 — January 8, 2024

Elk Grove, CA

Benny Ewing, Jr. (Pop) passed away peacefully in Sacramento, California on January 8th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Benny was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. He’s survived by his Wife-Mary Ewing, Brother-Richard Earl Ewing, Son-Brian Ewing, Daughter-Morgan Yarber, Daughter-Makiah Ewing, (4) Four Grandchildren, Corina, Tyler, Courtney, and Marin.

Born on February 16th, 1944 in Butler County, Alabama, to Benny Ewing and Hattie Mae Grissett, he was the fifth of seven children.
Benny was a decorated Viet Nam Veteran who served in the Army and received the Viet Nam Service Medal with (2) Two Bronze Service Stars and an Expert Rifle Bar (M14).  After serving his country, he began working for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Sacramento, Ca. as a technician.  He was hardworking, honest, personable and well-respected by his colleagues.  He excelled at building relationships with all he came in contact with.

Commonly known to his family as “Pop”, he took the most pride in his family. He was continuously busy focusing his time with his children.  In their home, there was never a dull moment.  Weekends and holidays were spent creating memories with family, good friends, at home or at a ballpark. Throughout his life, he volunteered his time to coach sports for his children, grandchildren, and other kids within the community.

Benny’s interests and hobbies matched his thoughtful and deliberate approach to life. He loved sharing his interests with his kids and grandkids, watching the “Raiders” on Sundays, listening to his jukebox, and going to church. He never rushed to solve a problem or draw a negative conclusion, but took the time to understand the issues and used “life opportunities” as teaching tools for his family. To some, due to his measured approach to life, he seemed to have a serious demeanor. However, even as he aged, his family involvement never wavered and he could always be counted on to bring lightness and levity to any situation.

Please join us in celebrating the life of Benny Ewing Jr. We ask attendees wear a shade of blue which was his favorite color to celebrate him on January 29th.
