Barbara Mae Hooker

Hooker, Barbara Mae (Austin) - 84 years old of North Highlands, California peacefully passed away April 15th, 2023 in Carmichael, California.

A devoted wife, mother, grand-mother aunt, daughter and sister-in-law; Barbara was better known as "Barb" to most, "Gma" to her grand-daughter and "Mom" to her children.

Barb was born on June 17, 1938 in Senath, Missouri to John Luther and Sadie Mae (Stonum) Austin. Barb married her childhood sweetheart Arthur Eugene (Gene) Hooker on July 8th, 1956 in Fernando, Mississippi.

 Barb and Gene were married for 56 years; until Gene’s passing in 2013. The first 19 years of their marriage were spent in the Navy which allowed Barb and Gene to travel extensively; places of residence include Missouri, Virginia, Morocco and California.

Upon retirement in 1976, Barb and Gene moved to North Highlands, California and would remain there for 48 years. Throughout her 84 years, Barb enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, going for long drives, going to the casino, playing her Facebook games or just relaxing on the back patio. Barb is survived by her son, Randy Hooker; daughter, Theresa Hartman; grand-daughter, Jenna Hartman; sister-in-law Lavon Austin; sister-in-law, Shirley Austin; several nieces, nephews, cousins, family member's, friends and neighbors.

A memorial service to honor Barb will be held Friday, May 5^th 2023 (1:00 - 3:00pm) at East lawn Mortuary   5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento CA 95841 Phone (916) 732-2020.
