Obituary

Dr. Augusto “Auggie” Cesar Herrera Soriano, 66, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at Sutter Medical Center Sacramento, surrounded by the love of his family, following complications from leukemia.

Born in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, Auggie lived a life marked by intellect, compassion, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his family, friends, students, and community. He approached every chapter of his life with humility, kindness, and a genuine desire to help others.

A gifted student from an early age, Auggie graduated from the prestigious Philippine Science High School in 1977. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1982 before fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a physician by graduating from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERM) in 1986.

After building his early life and career in the Philippines, Auggie moved to the United States with his beloved wife, Zoraida “Bebot” Soriano. Together, they embarked on a new chapter, building a life filled with love, family, friendship, and shared adventures.

Although trained as a physician, Auggie found his true calling in education. He initially taught courses in computer applications and technology, helping students develop essential computer literacy skills during the rapidly changing digital era. He then took on a role as a professor of Anatomy and Physiology at Kent State University at East Liverpool, where he inspired countless students through his passion for teaching, patience, and dedication. He was deeply respected by his colleagues and beloved by generations of students, many of whom credited him with laying the foundation for their careers in healthcare.

After retiring, Auggie embraced the joys of life that meant the most to him. He loved spending time on the golf course, preparing delicious meals for family and friends, traveling with his beloved wife, and attending reunions with his classmates, where lifelong friendships continued to flourish.

Auggie was a devoted husband and a proud father who found his greatest joy in watching his children grow, pursue their dreams, and build families of their own.

Auggie is survived by his beloved wife, Zoraida “Bebot” Soriano; his daughter, Celine Soriano, and her husband, Charleston “Chuck” Powell; his son, Jason Soriano, and his wife, Alejandra “Ale” Soriano; his granddaughter, Cataleya Powell; his older brother, Jesus Soriano, and his wife, Suzette; his younger brother, Mark Soriano, and his wife, Karen; his nieces, Ina, Ica, and Isa; and his nephews, Jag, Anton, Joseph, Michael, and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jesus Masilang Soriano and Angela DeGuzman Herrera Soriano, and nephew Jed Soriano.

Those who knew Auggie will remember his warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering willingness to help others. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome and cared for, whether through a thoughtful conversation, a home-cooked meal, or simply by being present. His kindness, wisdom, and selflessness touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched—as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected educator, and loyal friend. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
